Why AI websites all look the same
AI picks the most likely answer. Ask it for a website and the most likely website is the average of every template it ever saw. So it plays it safe, every single time, and your page ends up looking like a thousand other pages.
Impeccable's README lists the same handful of tells you get on every project when there's no design guidance:
"Inter for everything"
"purple-to-blue gradients"
"cards nested in cards"
"gray text on colored backgrounds"
"the rounded-square icon tile above every heading"
A few more you'll spot once you know to look:
The same page shape every time. Hallmark calls it the "hero → 3-feature → CTA → footer rhythm".
A centered hero with a big headline and two buttons under it.
Every section fading and sliding up as you scroll. Anthropic's own frontend-design skill says this "read[s] as AI-generated".
Made-up proof like "trusted by 50,000+ teams" when nobody said that. Hallmark treats invented numbers as slop.
Each one is fine on its own. Stack them together and your site blends into the crowd, and visitors notice.
I once shipped three purple gradient sites in one week. My mom asked why I kept sending her the same link.
The anti-slop prompt (no install)
Paste this at the start of any website request, then fill in the last line.
Paste this once
Before you design or write any code for this page:
1. List the generic defaults you would normally pick here, like Inter, purple-to-blue gradients, cards inside cards, gray text on colored backgrounds, or a centered hero with two buttons. Avoid all of them.
2. Choose one specific visual direction that fits this product's real audience and subject. Name a color palette with hex codes, pick 1 or 2 typefaces, and add one memorable element people will remember.
3. Explain your choices in a few sentences, then write the code.
Don't invent stats, logos or testimonials.
The page: [what it is and who it's for]
In Claude or ChatGPT, paste it as your first message. In Lovable or v0, put it in the very first prompt of a new project, since that's when the look gets decided. In Cursor or Claude Code, save it in your project rules so it applies to every page (see "Make it stick" below).
Your AI keeps making the same design mistakes and you can't name them. Impeccable is a design skill with 24 commands and 59 detector rules for AI-generated frontend design, so it can spot the slop and fix it with commands like bolder, polish and critique. It has 78K+ stars on GitHub.
Open a terminal in your project folder and paste the first line. Then open your AI tool (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and more) and paste the second line in the chat.
Paste in Terminal
npx impeccable install
Paste in Claude Code
/impeccable init
init asks a few questions about your product and saves the answers in a PRODUCT.md file, so later commands know who the site is for. On Claude Code you can also skip the terminal: paste /plugin marketplace add pbakaus/impeccable, then open /plugin and install Impeccable from the list.
Try it
Inside your AI tool, ask for a review, then a fix.
Paste in Claude Code
/impeccable critique the homepage
/impeccable polish the hero section
Want a check without any AI at all? This scans a live site from your terminal and lists what it finds:
Paste in Terminal
npx impeccable detect https://your-site.com
Heads upnpx comes with Node.js, so install that first if your terminal says it can't find it. More
Restart your AI tool after installing. On Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot and Grok Build, the installer also offers a small "hook" that runs the detector every time your AI edits a UI file. Type /impeccable alone to see every command.
"Make it look nice" gives the AI nothing to aim at. This repo collects ready-made DESIGN.md files based on real sites like Vercel, Raycast, Stripe, Notion and Spotify. A DESIGN.md is one plain-text file with the colors, fonts, spacing and component rules. In the README's words: "Copy a DESIGN.md into your project, tell your AI agent 'build me a page that looks like this'". It has 119K+ stars on GitHub.
No terminal? Open getdesign.md, pick a site, click Download DESIGN.md and drop the file in your project's main folder. With a terminal, paste this in your project folder (swap vercel for any site name from the list):
Paste in Terminal
npx getdesign@latest add vercel
Run npx getdesign list to see every name you can use.
Try it
Paste this in your AI tool.
You, to Claude
Read DESIGN.md before writing any UI. Build me a landing page for [your product] that looks like this. Match the colors, type scale and component patterns defined there.
Heads up These files are analyses of other brands' public sites, so use one as a starting point and make it yours. More
Swap in your own colors and logo before you ship. If a DESIGN.md already exists, the command saves the new one in a subfolder so nothing gets overwritten. The files follow Google Labs' DESIGN.md format, which comes with a free checker for broken values and low color contrast:
Even with good colors, AI pages share the same skeleton. Hallmark, made by Together AI, is a design skill for Claude Code, Cursor and Codex that "refuses to look AI-generated." It picks a page structure for your brief, dresses it in one of 21 themes, and runs 57 slop tests before it hands anything back. It has 29K+ stars on GitHub.
Paste in your terminal. Run it again any time to update.
Paste in Terminal
npx skills add nutlope/hallmark
Using Cursor? The README also says you can paste the body of its SKILL.md into .cursor/rules/hallmark.mdc.
Try it
Inside your AI tool, ask for a new page and Hallmark should pick it up on its own. Or use one of its verbs:
You, to Claude
hallmark audit index.html
hallmark study https://a-site-you-love.com
audit scores your page and gives you a ranked to-do list without changing anything. study reads a site or screenshot you admire and pulls out its "DNA": layout, font pairing and main color. hallmark redesign <file> keeps your words and brand and rebuilds the look.
Heads upstudy won't make pixel copies and refuses paid template marketplaces. More
If the site needs a login or doesn't load for it, Hallmark asks you for a screenshot instead.
Hallmark ran 57 tests on my portfolio. I passed four. Two of them were the footer.
A pack of design skills for layout, typography, motion and spacing, with separate versions for minimalist, soft premium and brutalist looks. It has 93K+ stars on GitHub.
On paid Claude.ai plans, Anthropic says its example skills are already available.

You, to Claude
Build a landing page for an AI security startup
Heads up There's no command to remember. More
Claude uses it on its own whenever you ask for frontend work.
Make it stick
Save the prompt where your AI always sees it. In Claude Code, add it to your project's CLAUDE.md. In Cursor, add it to a rules file. Then you stop pasting it every time.
Keep one DESIGN.md in your project's main folder. Every new page follows the same colors and fonts, so your site looks like one site.
Check before you ship. Run /impeccable audit, hallmark audit, or npx impeccable detect on your live URL, and fix the top three things it flags.
Compare against a site you admire. Put the two side by side, or run hallmark study on the one you like, and ask your AI to name the three biggest differences.
Step five is closing the laptop before you add a purple gradient "just to test." I've seen you.
Questions people ask
Why do AI-made websites all look the same?
An AI model picks the most likely answer. For a website, the most likely answer is the average of the thousands of templates it learned from. That's why you keep seeing the Inter font, purple-to-blue gradients and cards inside cards. The fix is to tell it what to avoid and give it a real direction.
Do I need to use a terminal for this?
Not for the anti-slop prompt. It works in any AI chat. For a DESIGN.md file, getdesign.md has a download button. Impeccable and Hallmark install with one command you paste in a terminal. If you use Claude Code, you can also ask it to run the command for you.
Do these work with Lovable, v0 or ChatGPT?
The prompt works everywhere. A DESIGN.md is plain text, so you can paste its contents into any chat. Impeccable and Hallmark are skills for coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor and Codex, so they need one of those to run.
Are these tools free?
Yes. All three are open source on GitHub. Impeccable uses the Apache 2.0 license, and Awesome DESIGN.md and Hallmark use MIT. You still pay for whatever AI tool you run them in.
